Botanical description:
A slightly woody shrub with bluntly quadrangular stems and
branches, leaves usually three at a node, sometimes opposite
oblong or elliptic, serrate; flowers blue, many in long
cylindrical thyrsus; fruits 4 lobed purple durpe, somewhat
succulent with one pyrene in each lobe.
