Botanical Name:
Tinospora cordifolia
Giloy consists of dried, matured pieces of stem of Tinospora
cordifolia (Willd.) Miers. (Fam, Menispermaceae), drug
collected
during summer preferably in the month of May.
Botanical description:
The plant is a glabrous climbing shrub. The leaves are heart
shaped, broadly ovate, cordate, and long petiolate. The
succulent
bark is creamy white to grey in color, with deep clefts
spotted with
lenticels. It puts out long, slender aerial roots. Flowers
are
yellow,growing in lax racemes from nodes. Fruits are drupes,
turning red when ripe. Seeds white, bean shaped, warty.
