Shilajit is an exudation of palaeohumus (around 80–85 %) and
organic compounds derived from vegetation fossils.
Physical Properties:
• Color blackish-brown
• Odor Characteristic
• Solubility Partially water and alkali. Slightly soluble in
ethanol
and methanol. Almost insoluble in chloroform and
ethyl acetate
• Taste Characteristic pungent and astringent
• pH of 2% aq. solution between from 5 to 7

Benzoic acid, hippuric acid, fatty acid, resins, Albuminoids,
triterpenes, sterols, coumarins, fulvic acids, humic acids,
dibenzoalpha- pyrones
