Goa has made history as the first Indian state to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal for reducing child malnutrition, accomplishing this milestone five years ahead of the 2030 target, by 2025.
Since the launch of its multi-micronutrient supplementation programme through Anganwadi Centres in 2021, all key indicators have shown transformative improvement: stunting reduced to 5.84%, wasting to 0.85%, and underweight children to just 2.18% by 2024.
Poshan Tracker data reinforces this achievement: Severe stunting fell from 12.92% in May 2022 to just 0.7% by June 2025, a testament to the visionary leadership of Hon. Health Minister Shri Vishwajeet Rane, the dedicated efforts of WCD Goa, and the tireless work of anganwadi workers on the ground.
